Easy Tool Translates ICD-10 Codes

Transitioning to ICD-10 codes just got a little easier. The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) has launched a free, online tool that translates ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 codes.

The tool will work with most ICD-9 codes since many will match up directly to an ICD-10 code. However, some will require a more in-depth clinical analysis to determine the corresponding ICD-10 code.

Physicians are required to transition to ICD-10 by Oct. 1, 2013. There will be 155,000 ICD-10 codes—about five times more than there are now.
