Physician Donates Time to Patients

You often hear that the practice of medicine has become just another business, that patients take a back burner to the cold calculation of cash flow.

That’s not so for Brian Cohen, MD, of Partners in Women’s Healthcare in Lemoyne.

For established patients who have lost their insurance or are otherwise unable to pay, Cohen continues to see them—free of charge. He says he probably sees four or five patients a month under this arrangement.

“If I’m their doctor, I’m their doctor. If I’m not paid for it, that’s OK. Most of them will have insurance again,” Cohen says.

Over the years, Cohen has donated his services to a number of other organizations—his children’s midget football team, a summer camp, and his local high school’s marching band.

“I’m happy to give away my services to patients that I take care of,” Cohen says.
