AMES Fund Eligibility and Application Requirements
Eligibility requirements
Eligibility for scholarship applicants include the following:
- Applicant must be a resident of Pennsylvania.
- Applicant must be a second-year or third-year medical student when applying.
- Applicant must be enrolled full-time in an accredited Pennsylvania medical or osteopathic school.
- Applicant, once designated a scholarship recipient, must reply by a specified deadline date to confirm attendance, noting the recipient is required to be present to accept the scholarship. If a designated recipient is not present, the next applicant by point standing will receive the scholarship.

Application requirements
Applicant must submit the following:
- A completed application form (Need based on financial, merit, leadership, service).
- Two reference letters (personal and academic, not just Dean’s record). These letters should be from persons—other than family members—who know the applicant well and should document the applicant’s integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as a future physician.
- A letter from the applicant’s medical or osteopathic school with recommendation and verification that the applicant is enrolled full-time and is currently a second-year or third-year medical student.
- A typed, one-page statement from the applicant describing the applicant's vision for the future of Pennsylvania medicine.
Note: Finalists may be called for personal interviews by the AMES Fund Committee.

Deadlines
- Application materials will be accepted beginning January 15 and must be postmarked by March 15 of the current year.
- Applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decision by June 1 of the current year.
- Scholarships—in the amount of $2,500 each—will be presented at the Alliance’s annual fundraiser in October of the current year.
Presentation: The scholarship recipient is required to be present for the Scholarship Presentation at the Alliance’s “AMES Fund-Raiser” held in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Medical Society Presidential Inauguration of Daniel J. Glunk, MD, Saturday evening, October 25, 2008, The Hershey Lodge, Hershey, PA.
The AMES Fund Scholarship:
- Will apply to the second semester of the ensuing academic year.
- Check will be made payable to the recipient's medical or osteopathic school.
Note: It's very important that we have the correct medical/osteopathic school information. Payment of the scholarship shall be made to the recipient’s school through the appropriate channels (financial aid, admissions, registrar, etc.)
- Money can only be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment.
