ACCME Reaccredits Pennsylvania Medical Society’s CME Program

The Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) has been awarded a six-year reaccreditation of its CME program by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). This is the longest period for which the ACCME will reaccredit a CME program.

“We are really honored to earn this designation,” said Edward J. McVay, MD, chair of PAMED’s Commission on Continuing Medical Education. “Only a small percentage of CME accreditors achieve this coveted distinction.”

PAMED was recognized with commendation for demonstrating compliance with all 22 areas reviewed by the ACCME.

PAMED offers a range of CME, all of which is designed to meet the state’s patient safety and risk management requirements. In the past year, PAMED accredited 136 activities, awarding more than 27,000 CME certificates to more than 5,000 physician learners.

By its unilateral pronouncements, ACCME has ruined the CME programs at most community hospitals across the country and made it impossible for conscientious medical staffs to plan or implement meaningful CME programs. Perhaps this PMS accreditation can be used to back up CME programs for such medical staffs.
