Electronic Physician Signatures Now Allowed on Death Certificates

The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) will now allow electronic physician signatures on death certificates.

The death certificate still must be printed and contain an original ink signature from the funeral director.

DOH made the policy change after completing a pilot project in Indiana County. Physicians and hospitals there were allowed to complete death certificates using word processing software that permitted electronic physician signatures.
