Scott Jackson
The oldest child of a divorced mother with two sisters, Scott is used to being around women. Now 42 and the father of two young girls, he’s right at home in the female-dominated world of practice administration.
Scott and Dr. Mason are particularly close since they have kids around the same age and understand how difficult it is to balance work and family. When they have time, he and Dr. Mason often slip out to lunch with Anita.
He gets frustrated with Dr. Sawyer’s relaxed approach to paperwork and, on more than one occasion, has had to ask her to finish a note or re-enter something into the EHR system. Needless to say, they don’t get together socially, but they don’t have an adversarial relationship either. He doesn’t have much in common with Dr. Liu, but he does appreciate his hard work and dedication to his job.
However, Scott doesn’t really get along with Stefan or Dr. Owens. He feels they are too focused on the bottom line and not enough on their employees and their employees’ families. Unlike some of the other practice administrators in the Valley Medical Group, he isn’t shy about letting his feelings be known. He often has to be the one to deliver news from Valley Medical Group to the Warrington employees, and it’s not always well-received.
In many ways, Scott is the perfect practice administrator because he has such a good rapport with both the nurses and the doctors. (His excellent rapport with the physicians is one reason why he can get away with speaking out about VMG policies and practices he doesn’t like.) He has an almost-encyclopedic knowledge of insurance rules, coding, and reimbursement. But he does struggle a bit with organization and has developed an elaborate organizational system involving multi-colored Post-It notes.
