Office FAQ
May I bill for meeting with family members to discuss a patient's treatment when the patient is not present?
It depends on the payer. CPT descriptors for office visits provide estimated time periods typically spent by physicians "face-to-face with the patient and/or family." However, Medicare and some other payers require that evaluation and management services include face-to-face services with the patient. Contact your payers to determine how to bill for these services.
