Three Physicians Win Cash Prizes in RFS Clinical Poster Contest
Three members of the Pennsylvania Medical Society's Resident and Fellow Section (RFS) took home cash prizes at the section’s annual poster contest held Oct. 15, 2011, in Hershey
The top prize of $500 was awarded to Krittika Teerapuncharoen, MD, of Albert Einstein Medical Center for her poster, “Features Suggestive of Pulmonary Embolism in Patients Whose Presenting Symptom Is Syncope.”
Giselle Baquero, MD, of Penn State Hershey won the second-place prize of $350 for her poster, “Disseminated Herpes Simplex Infection Presenting as Dysuria Leading to the Diagnosis Hairy Cell Leukemia in a Young Woman.”
Bravein Amalakuhan, MD, of Pinnacle Health System claimed the third-place prize of $200 for his poster, “The Sepsis Alert: Going a Step Beyond the Sepsis Protocol and Improving Mortality and Health Care Expenditure on a Global Level.”
“The environment created by the variety of posters with their contrasting colors, along with the groups of people in front of them engaged in deep conversation was one of scholarly grandeur,” said Dr. Amalakuhan. “
“I appreciated the opportunity to participate in such a well run event that fostered not only the exchange of medical knowledge but the connection of physicians from all over the state. I intend to maintain my relationship with PAMED in the years to come.”
There were a total of 17 presenters, representing eight different hospitals. Approximately 30 member physicians helped judge the posters this year.
