(Harrisburg, Pa.) More than 500 viewers called CBS-3 TV on Tuesday night with health concerns ranging from gynecologic issues, vaccines, chronic pain, and allergies as the Pennsylvania Medical Society brought its statewide outreach program Doctors on Call to the Philadelphia viewing area.
Thirty-seven physician volunteers, representing the Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia County Medical Societies, answered questions and discussed medical concerns with local residents anonymously and free of charge for two and a half hours. The member physicians also were equipped with a resource guide in order to refer patients to nearby community health centers that provide free or reduced-cost care. Additionally, CBS-3 is posting the contents of the Doctors on Call resource guide on their website, www.kyw.com.
“The Pennsylvania Medical Society strongly believes a good relationship between patients and doctors is essential to the healing process,” says Peter Lund, MD, president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society. “The Doctors on Call program offers a wonderful opportunity to help patients who might otherwise avoid or have no access to a physician.”
