Pennsylvania Medical Society Supports Patient Safety, Applauds Work of Patient Safety Authority
Pennsylvania's health care providers and patients are fortunate to have their safeguards championed by the Patient Safety Authority, the first state agency in our country to review patient care performance issues and suggest procedural changes toward long-term improvements.
By implementing the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Reporting System, the Authority assists health care systems in successfully identifying and correcting shortcomings. Working collaboratively with patient care facilities, physicians and other providers, the Authority provides them with evaluations and recommendations to review and implement as part of their quality improvement and patient safety programs. Already, Pennsylvania patients and health care providers are benefiting from the efforts of this pioneering group.
The Pennsylvania Medical Society has partnered with the Patient Safety Authority to provide online continuing medical education resulting from material in the Authority’s quarterly advisory, scheduled for launch in April 2006. The Web-accessed continuing education is the result of a yearlong collaborative effort between the two organizations to better communicate the important lessons summarized in the Authority’s advisories.
In observance of Patient Safety Awareness Week, the Pennsylvania Medical Society commends the comprehensive and outstanding work accomplished by the commonwealth's Patient Safety Authority during its first three years of operation. We anticipate equally successful patient-focused achievements by the Authority in the future.
